Though both the BC and Canadian government support students into debt by providing loan programs, there are few supports for students post-graduation. Gradutes struggling to pay their school and consumer debts can apply for some government programs to limit thier interest payments, or reduce their debt; however, these only apply to government debts and not to private or consumer debts (lines of credit, bank loans and credit cards).
The Credit Counselling Society was established in 1996 as a non-profit organisation to help individuals and groups with debt and financial problems.
