Since 1996 the Students' Union has operated a used book store. Starting first as a seasonal used book sale run from a storage room, the Students' Union's Used Book service has grown to one of the most popular services on campus. The Used Book Store operates on a consignment model and sells students' books at prices set by students. Funds generated are then returned to students minus a 20% commission that covers the costs of staffing, space and interac/credit card charges.
Annually, more than 1,700 members consign their used text books at the Students' Union, generating more than $200,000 of revenue back into students' pockets.
The terms and conditions of the Students' Union's Used Book Store are found on the back of the invoice students complete when consigning their books. The terms include a full explanation of how the sale works, how students are paid out and how the commission is applied. Download a copy of the terms and conditions at the bottom of this section.
The invoice itself contains a listing of all books submitted, the subject for which they were used and the sale price. Copies of the invoice are kept by the Students' Union and filed both by name and invoice number. A copy of the invoice is also provided to each participating student.
LOST YOUR INVOICE AND DON't KNOW YOUR INVOICE NUMBER?
No problem. Just visit the Students' Union Office in Building 193 with your student card or another piece of picture ID and we can retreive your invoice number and provide you a copy of the invoice.
Each month the Students' Union posts a list of all invoice numbers containing books that have sold and have payments outstanding. If a student's invoice number is listed, then that student can claim the funds owing to them by requesting a cheque from the Students' Union.
To check if you are owed money, please contact the Students' Union office by visting building 193 or calling 260.754.8866. Beginning in November, the list of invoices will also be published on our website under this section. Please check back after November 9 to consult the online list.
